As a Peer Support Assistant with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

Work as a member of a community-based team to assist with implementing the designated program.Provide peer-based support and assists with facilitating group sessions to designated clients.Provide support to clients in the development and maintenance of life skills, assist clients with the activities of daily living and promote client participation in programs.Participate in established recreational and social activities, assist Rehab Supervisor with organizing materials for group sessions and participate in committees, task groups, and/or program initiatives.Assist the Rehab Supervisor with on-going team planning, development, evaluation and quality improvement activities. Qualifications

Education & Experience

Grade 12, Completion of a recognized Peer Support Training Program and two (2) years recent, related experience providing support to individuals with mental health and substance use issues or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Valid BC Driver’s License. Local travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of the principles of recovery.Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation methodology.Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and to recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of the peers and consumers.Ability to communicate effectively/tactfully both verbally and in writing.Ability to organize and prioritize.Ability to work under the pressure of interruptions and adapt to changes.Ability to problem solve and take initiative.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Ability to operate related equipment.Basic computer literacy to operate computerized client care information system.Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
