Per Diem Pharmacy Technician

Salary Range: $21.16 - $29.16

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

Assists in the procurement, packaging, preparation and distributions of drugs, chemicals and sterile drug products. Participates in continuous improvement activities as directed. Assists with Pharmacy Services operations for the District. Must work well under stress or tight deadlines. Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.

Position Duties/Responsibility:

Prepare and deliver medications for patient care in an accurate and timely manner. Prepare and deliver parenteral medications in an accurate and timely manner. Thorough knowledge, or ability to quickly grasp, IV compounding techniques, to include Sterile Technique. Manage Pharmacy Services inventory (e.g. proper storage and checking for expired drugs in pharmacy stock). Ensure day-to-day pharmacy function (e.g. office supplies and stationary items, organization and cleanliness of the pharmacy, stocking/restocking of all items, etc.). Ensure adequate stocking and validity of all medications in patient care areas, to include Floor Stock and Automated Dispensing Machines (ADMs). Ensure accurate and timely billing of patients for services/medications provided. Prepare periodic reports for other departments, as required. Train other technicians in respective functional area. Provide guidance and direction to volunteers.  Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

The ability to stand and ambulate over prolonged periods. The ability to read fine print on packages/package inserts. Manual dexterity to prepare IV admixtures, unit dose packaging. The ability to lift medium loads frequently. Functional computer literacy – MS Office and web-based applications. The ability to type at a reasonable speed. The ability to carry out non-discretionary tasks with minimal supervision. A functional grasp of basic arithmetical and algebraic principles. The ability to use a stepladder to reach stored objects. The ability to work as a member of a team. The ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients/residents and visitors.

Position Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma, licensed as Pharmacy Technician in State of California. Experience: Based on education and background. Certification: None required. Skills/Abilities: Familiarity with delivery and medication administration for patients of all ages.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy. Excellent time management skills. Exercise good judgment. Demonstrate initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.  Excellent problem-solving skills.  Proficient with computer applications.      LVMC reserves the right to modify the minimum requirements depending on the needs of the organization.
