The Respiratory Therapist will provide Respiratory support to all patients with abnormalities of cardiopulmonary function. Administration and monitoring of all diagnostic and therapeutic modalities within the service’s scope of practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initiate, monitor, and adjust parameters on all patients receiving HFNC, NIPPV, Invasive mechanical ventilation or other modalities (ex: Vest therapy, Cough Assist, Mobilization, Nitric Oxide, etc.) as per physician order. Obtain arterial blood gases on patients as per MD order. Initiate and administer aerosolized medication therapy as per M.D order. Initiate, regulate and monitor the use of oxygen therapy as per M.D order and completion of appropriate departmental and medical center records. Respond to all cardiopulmonary arrests and assist as needed, rapid response team calls, assist as needed, including performing endotracheal intubation. Completes all competency paperwork as per department policy. Adheres to all infection control and safety policies relating to respiratory care. Inventories and stocks all respiratory care equipment as specified for each assigned area and maintains these areas in a neat and orderly manner. Administers care within the scope of the institution’s patient care code of ethics. Participates in the department’s quality improvement plan. Performs education with all new procedures or equipment to the patient or family member. Instructs and oversees Respiratory Therapy Students on respiratory care policies and procedures, and assists in the evaluation of the students’ performance. Participates in the interdisciplinary rounds on patient care units. Provides respiratory care as per department’s service agreements. Actively participates in the patient care plan process and makes appropriate recommendations to the physician and nursing staff for patients requiring respiratory care. Other duties assigned as related to the practice of Respiratory Care.
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an AMA Respiratory Program or Certificate of completion from an AMA accredited program Current NYS Respiratory Therapist License. CRT, RRT or Registry Eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care. (CRT may perform procedures under the supervision of an RRT). Current BLS by the American Heart Association or Red Cross.PREFERRED:
1-2 years of experience in Respiratory Therapy preferred Pediatric/ Neonatal experience preferred
