Performance Engineer
Overview Juncos Hollinger Racing is seeking a dedicated and skilled Performance Engineer to join our team! Responsibilities Position Summary: The Performance Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the race engineer and the engineering team to optimize the performance of the race car and achieving the best results for the team. Responsibilities include a mix of technical, analytical, and hands-on tasks, all geared toward improving car performance, reliability, and efficiency. Responsibilities: Data Analysis: Analyze the data collected from the car and telemetry data to identify areas of improvement, including setup adjustments and optimizing fuel strategies. They also assist in identifying performance trends and potential mechanical issues. Car Setup Support: Setup Changes: Work closely with the race engineer and mechanics to help implement and expedite setup changes and support the Race Engineer in the various calculations and simulations required. Race Strategy Assistance and fuel management: Strategic Planning: Support the race engineer and strategists by providing insights from data and simulation, which influence pit stop strategies, tire choices, and fuel loads. Fuel management: During testing and practice sessions calculate the fuel required according to the race engineer’s plan. In the race, calculate fuel quantities and work with the race engineer and strategists to optimize race strategy. Real-Time Support: During races, monitor live telemetry and assist the team in defining adjustments based on real-time data, weather conditions, and competitor performance. Software and Tools Management: Simulation Tools: Work with performance analysis and simulation software to simulate car behavior and predict outcomes. Work with the systems engineers to detect and troubleshoot anomalies in the data Development of engineering tools and calculators Vehicle Dynamics and Aerodynamics: Vehicle Dynamics: Assist in the development of vehicle dynamics models to better understand how various parameters influence car behavior on different tracks. Develop simulation models using track data to improve correlation. Aerodynamic Support: Provide support in optimizing the aerodynamic configuration and setup of the car, Testing and Development: Testing Program Support: Support the team during track testing, in-season and post season. Including preparing car configurations, analyzing results, and feeding back recommendations for further development Component Testing: Collaborate in testing new car components and involvement in various static testing and development projects. Mechanical and Systems Knowledge: Troubleshooting: Assist in diagnosing and finding solutions to mechanical or electronic issues with the car Pit Lane Support: Pit Stops: Assist in preparing the car for pit stops, ensuring everything is ready for tire changes, fuel top- ups, or quick adjustments. Communication: Act as a secondary communicator between the driver and the race engineer, monitoring driver feedback and relaying information during the race. Driver Feedback Integration: Driver Support: Assist in analyzing driver feedback and data to recommend adjustments. Help translate driver comments into actionable setup changes. Use driver feedback and input to permit focus on critical issues of setup Assist the driver (with the race engineer) in optimizing driving and operation of the car using recorded data and video. General Team Support: Collaboration: Work closely with other departments such as research and development and the race Provide data and feedback to suppliers (including GM, Firestone) where directed. Physical Requirements and Body Mechanics: As part of our Indy racing team, this role involves physically demanding tasks that require strength, coordination, and safe body mechanics. Candidates must be able to: Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally heavier loads, utilizing proper lifting techniques to prevent strain or injury. Demonstrate the ability to perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, and twisting, especially in tight or confined spaces, while maintaining proper posture and body mechanics. Safely handle tools, equipment, and racing components, ensuring ergonomic handling to minimize risks of musculoskeletal injuries. Be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, often in varying weather conditions, while adhering to safety protocols related to body positioning and movement. Proper body mechanics are critical to maintaining the safety and performance of our team. Training in safe lifting techniques and ergonomic practices will be provided to support team members' well-being.
