Performance Improvement Coord. - Trauma - Full Time

Position Summary: 

Collaborates with the Trauma team to monitor clinical care of the injured patient including compliance with Standards of Trauma Center Accreditation. Also leads the team and serves as a mentor to plan and execute performance improvement activities to comply with standards of trauma center accreditation.

Education, License & Cert: 

A Bachelors’ Degree in Nursing is required. RN licensed in state of Pennsylvania. Certified by a nursing specialty board in related field. PA Trauma Nurse Certification required. ATCN provider certification required within one year of hire. TOPIC Course required within one year of hire.

Experience: 

Five years of experience in trauma, critical care or emergency nursing or a related clinical field; knowledge of Emergency Medical Services and trauma care; demonstrated abilities in establishing positive relationships with patients and their families, internal and external healthcare providers and EMS personnel; and excellent organizational, leadership, collaborative practice and teaching skills.

Essential Functions: 

1. Ability to multi‐task and prioritize work in accordance with changing deadlines.  Including the ability to overcome objectives and manage projects to a close. Demonstrates effective leadership, time management, flexibility, and priority setting. Effectively communicates with all members of the Trauma System including administration, providers, nursing and all other multidisciplinary team members.

2. Ensures appropriate clinical management of all trauma patients in collaboration with the trauma clinical and administrative team by reviewing documentation of clinical care for compliance to standards of trauma care, practice management guidelines and standards for trauma center accreditation.

3. Assumes responsibility for the planning, development, design and coordination of the trauma performance improvement activities and communicates effectively the opportunities to both internal and external teams. Promotes the Trauma Performance Improvement process and its integration with the hospital Performance Improvement Plan.

4. Initiates the PI process in accordance with the Trauma PI Plan for all identified actual and potential issues, facilitates implementation of corrective action, provides documentation on trauma PI tools and in the POPIMS PI database, validates follow‐up and assures loop closure in collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director.

5. Collaborates with the Trauma Registry by reviewing patient records for determination of a patient’s inclusion in the trauma registry, reporting occurrences, procedures and complications, discussing issues and assuring data accuracy.

6. Promotes and participates in the development, planning, coordination, and presentation of internal and external injury prevention, trauma educational and outreach programs.  Ensures  the availability and provision of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), Rural Trauma Team Development Course and other trauma training programs for internal and external trauma care providers.

7. Facilitates loop closure and completion of action items on all identified issues and ensures all documentation on these is entered into the trauma PI database.

8. Serves as a staff resource regarding the PTSF Standards for Trauma Center Accreditation, American College of Surgeons trauma guidelines of resources for optimal care of the injured patient and RPH trauma policies, procedures and trauma practice management guidelines.

9. Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Center Manager to review clinical care data and preparation and execution of the Trauma Center Accreditation site visits.

Pay range min $31.00/hr max $47.86/hr
