Performance Nutrition Specialist
Job Summary: Exos is seeking a Performance Nutrition Specialist to join our team. This position requires a credentialed Registered Dietitian to play a key role in integrating nutrition into the performance strategy of a professional sports team and supporting athletes with daily guidance to enhance their physical performance. Additionally, the role involves developing and managing nutritional programming for the orthopedics and sports medicine department at Mercy. This includes providing consultations for pre- and postop patients, post-injury care, and collaborating with Mercy Sports Medicine to optimize recovery and outcomes for youth, adolescent, and adult populations. Key Responsibilities (St. Louis Cardinals) + Provide on-site nutrition counseling and guidance during select home game days. + Implement behavioral change strategies to improve nutrition and lifestyle, enhancing performance and overall health. + Develop and deliver targeted nutrition strategies to optimize athletes’ physical performance, competition readiness, and recovery. + Conduct comprehensive assessments of dietary habits, body composition, and energy balance to enhance athletic performance. + Offer personalized support for weight management, hydration, immunity, travel nutrition, and supplement strategies. + Collaborate closely with coaching, medical, performance, and culinary teams to integrate nutrition into overall performance programs. + Work in partnership with the Cardinals’ Minor League Performance Nutrition Coordinator to ensure consistency in nutrition strategies across the organization. + Partner with food service providers to design meal plans that align with athletes' performance and recovery goals. Job Specifics + Location : Based in St. Louis, Missouri + Game Attendance : Required to attend all home games and travel to select away games. + Hours : Non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends. + Availability : On-call nutrition support by phone during away games. + Spring Training : Four-day trip to Jupiter, FL for team orientation. + In-Season : + On-site at Busch Stadium for each home series, with frequent visits during longer homestands. + Estimated 24-25 home games per season, with about 10 hours of support per game. + Travel : Three estimated road trips per season (approximately three days each). + Off-Season : + Travel to meet with players, their chefs, or family members (estimated three trips at two days each). + Attend MLB Winter Meetings. + Remote Support : Provide virtual consults and lifestyle coaching during off-site periods. + Collaboration : Work closely with MiLB and KitchFix dietitians, medical teams, strength & conditioning coaches, and mental skills coaches. Key Responsibilities (Mercy Health Sports Medicine) + Sports performance and sports medicine client consultations. + Public speaking engagements and program development as needed. + Design, develop, implement, and manage nutritional programming for the orthopedics and sports medicine department at Mercy. This includes nutritional planning recommendations for pre- and postop patients, as well as post-injury care, all aimed at optimizing recovery for the patient. + Provide consultations with the Mercy Sports Performance by Exos clients across youth, adolescent, and adult populations. + Help identify measures to track success and demonstrate that the nutritional programming is making a positive impact on patient outcomes and the athletic population served. Exos-Specific Training + Work closely with the Exos Performance Nutrition Specialist Manager to master Exos' nutrition methodologies and athlete support systems. Required Qualifications + Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active registration. + Missouri state dietetic licensure (or willingness to obtain). + Master’s degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, or a related field. + Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or willingness to pursue. + Minimum of 2 years of experience in sports nutrition counseling, preferably in a professional or collegiate setting. Preferred Qualifications + Culinary experience or education. + Management or leadership experience. + Spanish fluency is a plus. Skills & Abilities + Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills. + Proven ability to collaborate with a diverse team, including athletes, coaches, chefs, and support staff. + Strong organizational skills with proficiency in record-keeping and time management. + Knowledge of ergogenic aids, supplements, and complementary medicine. + Skilled in assessing body composition and energy balance for athletes. + Familiarity with NCAA, USADA, WADA, and other sports regulations on banned substances. + Knowledge of food safety practices and HIPAA compliance.
