Perfusionist - Pediatric

Sign On Bonus
This position is eligible for up to a $5,000 sign on bonus. This bonus is eligible for newly hired external applicants.  Current AAH Team Members are not eligible at this time.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for the safe delivery of optimal perfusion. Follows established Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Guidelines approved by Chief Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeon.Responsible for efficient operation of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program.Responsible for POH case coverage at LGH.Responsible for selection, assembly, preparation and pre-clinical assessment of extra-corporeal circuit (ECC) components and equipment systems.Responsible for assisting the primary perfusionist during CPB.Blood managementResponsible for maintaining professional standards and self-development.Responsible for proper disposal of CPB circuit, equipment clean up, and routine maintenance of pump and equipment (cooler-heaters, ACT units, blood gas machines, blenders, holders, etc.). • Assures and provides for routine maintenance of equipment as required by hospital policy. • Handles and disposes of waste products safely in a manner consistent with department of surgery policy. • Thoroughly cleans and decontaminates all equipment after each use. • Wears protective equipment as indicated by department of surgery policy. • Utilizes due care when handling dangerous or contaminated equipment.*Responsible for restocking, ordering, and rotation of supplies.Responsible for quality control of ACT, HMS and ROTEM at Advocate Children's Hospital (Oak Lawn and Park Ridge)

Education/Experience Required:

- Baccalaureate degree - Graduate of an accredited perfusion school - Pediatric perfusion training


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

- Roller pump - Electronic safety systems - Organized, logical thought process - Strong technical aptitude - Basic PC - Good communication - Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team - Problem solving aptitudeIllinois DPR License Eligibility American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion eligibility


Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

- Ability to cover on-call assignment 24-hours per day, seven days per week - Ability to monitor and handle multiple tasks simultaneously - Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints - Ability to cooperate - Ability to communicate with a surgical mask on - Ability to perform heavy lifting (50-100 lbs. occasionally, 25-50 lbs. frequently, 10-20 lbs. constantly) - May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseasesIf position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
