Perioperative Specialist - RN

The Perioperative Specialist is responsible for the design and support of multiple projects or tasks and project coordination. Maintains a high level of quality and adherence to department standards including practice standards, training and project implementation activities. Serves as a clinical and technical liaison for the Operating Room Services service line, Carilion Clinic clients and staff. Collaborates with the Education Consultant, Manager/Director in activities related to orientation and continuing education of staff. Proactively monitors the Operating Room Services regulatory environment and advises the Leadership Team of potential changes in laws and regulations. Develops and implements a plan in response to the changing regulatory environment to ensure ongoing compliance. Monitors and reports Performance Improvement information. Provides direct support to leadership for critical value process and projects.
 

Provides leadership with Operating Room Services projects for ORS Directors and Managers while maintaining accountabilities within budget and within compliance guidelines. Works with others in addressing quality and practice issues and actively seeks to improve effectiveness through interdisciplinary project collaboration. Must be able to facilitate change within the group through effective persuasion. Provides Director with documented project progress on a scheduled basis. Collaborates with Education Consultant on the development, delivery and evaluation of orientation and continuing education programs. Presents information using multiple delivery approaches. Presentations are organized, well scripted and meet customer needs. Promotes open, honest, proactive two-way communication. Adheres to established education standards and practices. Utilizes adult learning principles. Partners with, gains approval from education consultants prior to delivering educational presentations, ensuring that education materials are current and relevant. Assist in the orientation for new employees.  Provides timely and appropriate feedback regarding quality and safety initiatives and related staff behaviors to the Unit Director and Senior Director. Assists in annual learning needs assessment, development of in-service education related to identified learning needs, coordinates completion of competency validations. Reviews and makes recommendations for revisions to competency tools to support current evidenced based practice and departmental learning needs. Monitors performance improvement objectives for Operating Room Services. Seeks opportunities to gain additional training and education relative to quality improvement. Educates staff on the quality measurement tools and follows up with remedial education as necessary. Plans, implements, monitors and evaluates performance improvement objectives and activities that exceed regulatory and statutory requirements. Works in collaboration with leadership and consistently communicates updates to appropriate persons. Monitors the regulatory environment and provides monthly updates to the leadership team. Proactively recommends policy and practice changes in response to changing regulatory needs. Participates in professional and educational activities to maintain current knowledge base. Maintains competency and completes all required educational activities. What We Require:


Education: Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field required. Masters degree in Nursing or Business preferred.

Experience: Three to five years of related experience.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: RN required, BLS required

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required. Must be able to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strong analytical skills required. Must possess and demonstrate excellent written skills. Must have the ability to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple projects and utilize innovative techniques and ingenuity in preparing documentation for grantors and other stakeholders. Must demonstrate flexibility in hours, assigned days of work and job duties. Work is normally performed in a clinical setting with moderate physical effort. Travel to multiple locations may be required.
