Perioperative Technician I - Evenings

As part of the health care team, the Perioperative Technician performs basic and technical clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety and comfort of patients of all ages. Works with residents needing restorative nursing measures to gain or maintain their highest possible functional level. Provides quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care. Decontaminates, assembles, sterilizers, distributes instruments, supplies, and equipment for patient care. Operates various sterilizers. Participates in the delivery of individualized perioperative nursing care under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Organizes and prepares equipment and supplies for patient care. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to assure quality patient care. 

Job duties of the Perioperative Tech include, but are not limited to the following:
 

Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for handling sterilized and clean materials and to maintain a safe work environment. Sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies using flash sterilization. Load sterilizers in the prescribed manner and set controls to specified time and temperature according to material and requirements of items being sterilized. Verify appropriate sterilization cycle to ensure all parameters have been met. Complete appropriate documentation records. Identify instrument procedure trays according to the prescribed manner. Handle all items following aseptic practices. Dispense products requested for sterile and non-sterile equipment and supplies. Assign priority to emergency requests and issue required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure intended. Handling instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique. Disassemble and decontaminate equipment using approved chemical solution. Reassemble instruments and equipment after cleaning and operate to test for proper functioning. Replace lost or damaged parts. Transfer inoperable equipment to the appropriate area for repair. Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Cleans and/or safely operates selected equipment within the department. Maintains cleanliness of the equipment and mobilizes equipment to clean out halls and prepare for cases. What We Require:


Education: High school graduate or equivalent.  Nursing Assistant or Nursing education.

Experience: Previous NA experience in direct patient care preferred.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

Life Support: Must successfully complete Basic Life Support Course within 6 months of hire.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and team working skills required. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position. Must be able to fulfill fundamental components/essential elements of position.
