Position is also responsible for assisting Business Personal Property Auditors (“Auditors”) in the auditing of tax returns as well as members of the public in complying with the applicable state statutes and rules. Agency Summary The purpose and mission of the Marion County Assessor’s agency is to provide the city, county, and townships located in the city with information regarding how property values are assessed. Position Responsibilities Key Responsibilities + Annually assesses mobile homes in Marion County that are deemed to be personal property. + Updates and maintains computer databases relating to the market value of mobile homes and related improvements. + Updates and maintains computer databases relating to business personal property tax returns and their supporting documentation. + Manages a large volume of work in a timely and accurate manner according to the priority assigned to the task, including periodic status reports. + Maintains a professional and positive relationship with peers, coworkers, outside agencies, and the public while assisting in their compliance with Indiana’s property tax law. + Assists other personal property tax staff on an as-needed basis to ensure a smooth workflow. + Maintains confidentiality of information. + This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time. Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year’s prior work-related experience are required. Preference is given for applicants pursuing, or who have obtained, a degree in accounting, paralegal, or related fields of study. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to relate effectively to both legal and accounting professionals orally and in writing are required. Proficient computer skills with an emphasis on knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, imaging systems, and other Microsoft Office software are required. Ability to type a minimum of 60 WPM is preferred. All activities must comply with state law.
