Personnel Security Specialist
Summary About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist responsible for providing headquarters level oversight to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Personnel Security program. This position is located in Falls Church, VA. Responsibilities Assist in establishing, developing, coordinating, and implementing DHA required security policy and procedures to ensure national security policy is promulgated at DHA. Identify, analyze, evaluate, and recommend solutions to resolve simple to complex problems impacting security readiness of assigned security programs. Initiate security clearance investigations for initial security clearances and upon receipt of the employees’ investigation report; notify government personnel of the requirement for background investigation periodic reinvestigations (PR). Collaborate, develop, and implement DHA Personnel security policies and procedures to ensure security policy is established and promulgated within the DHA. Coordinate with security representatives in support of DHA employees to facilitate and ensure the access to classified information. Represent the Defense Health Agency at high level DoD and other government working groups regarding security program policy input and collaboration. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a wide range of personnel security duties (such as evaluating security clearances for personnel, initiating background investigations/periodic security clearance reviews, suitability adjudication, etc.); making suitability (fitness) determinations for public trust positions; making security determinations for non-critical sensitive or critical-sensitive positions; AND utilizing automated security systems (such as Defense Information Security System (DISS), Personnel Investigations Processing System (PIPS), Central Verification System (CVS), Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (eQIP), electronic application (eAPP), etc.) to complete security/suitability investigations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral Communication Personnel Security Security Education, Training and Awareness Security Tools and Methods Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
