POSITION PURPOSE
Performs pharmacy supportive functions requiring an advanced level of training and additional levels of responsibility; may focus on team leadership or advanced technical skills. Performs tasks requiring independent judgement, advanced technical skills, and creative problem solving. Performs tasks to assist in the management of the department and act as a link between leadership and Pharmacy Technicians. Demonstrates performance that consistently meets quality assurance standards. Works to create an environment with a focus on patient and employee safety, as the consequences of a compounding or drug selection error, if undetected, could result in serious patient injury.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides functional supervision of pharmacy technician staff on the afternoon and midnight shift. Independently plans and directs pharmacy technicians to provide high quality pharmacy services. Modifies the technician responsibilities to meet established deadlines. Serves as a primary liaison with Pharmacy Management. Functions as a staff technician and specialist technician as workload dictates. Audits pharmacy workflow, logistics, processes and identifies improvements as needed. Communicates recommendation to pharmacy management. Aids in the adjustments of schedules and staffing models to meet the current work demands. Revises daily assignments as needed to meet changing work volumes and staffing patterns. Suggest and helps implement flexible workflow patterns, staffing models, and efficient distributive procedures to deliver high quality, patient-centered, pharmaceutical services Assigns on-line tasks, departmental projects, and administrative assignments to ensure the coordination and timely completion of urgent tasks Participates in interviewing, onboarding, orientation of pharmacy technicians. Collaborates with Pharmacy Technician Manager on performance improvement plans as needed for any technician, assists with follow up meetings and action items. Participates in the development and maintenance of department policies, observes and reports lack of compliance. Participates in the orientation, training and education of new technicians and ongoing education as needed for current staff. Maintains any checklists. Assigns duties and projects to technicians, responsible for overseeing the follow through and completion of these items. Participates in interdepartmental meetings as necessary. Collects and reports pharmacy quality metrics as requested by Pharmacy Management. Prepares quality reports for management in a timely fashion. Evaluates employee proficiency, determines when additional training or re-testing is necessary. Collaborates with Pharmacy Technician Manager to maintain departmental orientation manuals, training checklist and internal competencies. Provides input to the Pharmacy Technician Manager for introductory and routine performance appraisals. Provides guidance and direction to employees to assist with their development as technicians. Notices when pharmacy technicians do not follow logistics, policies, procedures and coaches staff on expectations. Escalates issues with proper documentation to Pharmacy Technician Manager as appropriate.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: Minimum of six months specialized training beyond high school.
Experience: Minimum one-year experience at the pharmacy technician level.
Certification/Licensure: Current State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license
