MAIN FUNCTION: Prepares and dispenses medications and associated pharmaceutical supplies ordered by physicians for use by inpatients, outpatients, and various hospital departments.

Contacts/confers with physicians with questions/irregularities regarding prescriptions. Reviews & interprets prescriptions using patient profiles to ensure that overdoses have not been prescribed and that incompatibilities/drug interactions will not result from combining ingredients.  Confers with physician to adjust drug doses based on renal & hepatic functions, patient age and specific disease states. Weighs, measures & mixes ingredients; compounds & prepares medication, emulsions, liquids, powders and ointments using such equipment as graduates, balance, mortars, pestles and funnels. Dispenses additives for I.V. and irrigating solutions.  Mixes I.V. additive solutions and chemotherapy as required using aseptic technique with the laminar airflow hood, if needed. Inspects pharmacy inventory to ensure that drugs, which are outdated and/or have lost their potency, are removed from stock and replaced. Assumes responsibility to maintain adequate inventory by placing orders when needed.  Organizes daily operational duties in the dispensing function. Support personnel are under the direction of a pharmacist. Serves in an educational capacity for patients and staff. Gives inservices to Hospital staff relating to Pharmacy procedures and drug information such as availability, toxicology, investigational uses, etc.

EDUCATION:   B.S. degree in Pharmacy.

EXPERIENCE: State of CT registration/licensure required.

SCHEDULE: Primarily days, rotating evening and every other weekend.
