Summary
SUMMARY: Under general direction, compounds, prepares, dispenses and maintains control of drugs and pharmaceutical supplies in the hospital or clinic. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Compounds, prepares, packages and dispenses drugs and pharmaceuticals according to Federal and State law requirements; supervises a Pharmacy Technician and other support staff in the above duties.
2. Keeps informed of new drugs and pharmaceutical developments; services as a pharmaceutical consultant to medical and nursing staff.
3. Keeps or supervises records of drugs, poisons, and controlled substances ordered, received, and supplied on hand as required by Federal and State laws; estimates needs and orders drugs, pharmaceuticals and chemicals as needed to maintain an adequate supply.
4. Review the proper storage of drugs in nursing stations, pharmacies or outpatient clinics; remove all outdated drugs.
5. “If performing Bridge shift duties, the pharmacist completes refill authorizations on behalf of clinic providers, under a Collaborative Practice Agreement.”
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Advanced degree preferred or enrollment in an advanced degree program.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or related field is required.
Minimum Experience: One to three years of experience as a Registered Pharmacist in a hospital preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications: CPI -Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (required for all positions at John George Psychiatric Pavilion; and certain positions in the Emergency Department).
Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid Pharmacist License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
Advanced Practice Pharmacist Certification (required to be assigned to Bridge Clinic)Additional Information
Note: must be able to support discharge delivery patient who are leaving the hospital.
