Pharmacist
Behavioral Center of Michigan
Under general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and according to accepted pharmacy standards, compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceuticals upon orders from the physicians. Provide information/teaching pertaining to drugs to physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, patients, and caregivers.
REPORTS TO:
Director of Pharmacy or designee in his/her absence
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Degrees(s): Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
License(s): Must hold a current license to practice pharmacy in the state of Michigan.
Continuing Education: Must obtain 30 hours every 2 years of Continuing Education pertaining to the practice of hospital pharmacy, from an approved provider. Must attend all hospital continuing education programs required of all employees
Knowledge , Skills, and Abilities:
1. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate medications for adult or geriatric patients served by the pharmacy department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs.
2. Understand the composition and properties of drugs and their pharmacological actions.
3. Must be able to distinguish between proper and improper drug selection and appropriateness of therapy.
4. Must possess the ability to compute dosage/rate based on composition of physician’s order and patient’s age.
5. Must be able to interpret written and oral prescriptions.
6. Must have computer experience and typing skills.
7. Must be able to maintain a high level of concentration to follow lengthy procedures and processing orders in the computer.
8. Must be able to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses, and other ancillary professional staff when discussing drugs and drug-related information.
