Job Summary

The Pharmacist 3 works in a clinical setting, providing vital pharmaceutical care to patients. This role includes preparing and dispensing medications according to regulations and policies. The incumbent also serves as a resource for healthcare professionals like pharmacists, pharmacy students, and resident trainees. Another major aspect is consulting for Nursing, Medical Staff, and patients on medications, orders, pharmaceutical details, reactions, and complaints or errors. The position might involve care, treatment, or assessment of patients of all ages, from neonates to the elderly. The Pharmacist 3 supervises technicians' tasks and manages daily activities. The role may include specialized duties like serving as the Residency Program Coordinator, entity stewardship, operational support, or managing Investigational Drug Services.

Essential Functions of the Role

Ensure patients receive high-quality pharmaceutical care that is safe, effective, and upholds their rights.Compound and mix ingredients as needed, following all policies and procedures. This includes tasks like mixing intravenous and irrigation solutions.Give consultation and education to patients and their caregivers about medication options, including alternative drug therapies.Verify the accuracy, appropriateness, and potential interactions of medications, making adjustments as per approved procedures.Dispense medications and compounds, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and regulatory guidelines.Evaluate prescriber's medication orders in the context of the patient's overall therapeutic requirements.Supervise Pharmacy Technicians in their non-professional duties, ensuring their work aligns with professional standards.Assist with inventory, purchasing, and quality control of medications. Maintain accurate records and properly charge or credit pharmacy product accounts.Regularly keep track of narcotics and other drug inventories and records as mandated by law.

Key Success Factors

Knowing pharmacy care practices, medicinal calculations, terminologies, sterile techniques, standards, medicines, and their usage is beneficial.The employee should have a knack for researching, scrutinizing, and sharing vital pieces of information.A good understanding of intricate processes, together with the ability to refine and properly record them, is essential.Effective communication skills, both in verbal and written form, are required to convey thoughts clearly.The employee needs to be familiar with relevant federal, state and regulatory norms that apply to this field.Basic computer skills include using software, entering data, ensuring security, documenting medical info, using scanners, and sending emails.

Qualifications

\n\nThe applicant needs to have a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.\nA minimum of four (4) years of professional experience is required for this role.\nThe applicant should hold a Pharmacist (RPH) license. Alternatively, completing Residency Training can substitute this requirement.\n
