The Pharmacy Leader (PL) is accountable for leading, managing and advancing people, processes and / or programs which assist in the provision of pharmaceutical care under the supervision & direction of the Regional Pharmacy Director to support Pharmacy business lines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSLeadership - Provides leadership & retains accountability for delegation, choices, decisions, and outcomes. Directs alignment and standardization for Pharmacy business lines to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care in accordance with professional standards, regulatory and licensing agency policies, and federal and state laws related to the practice of Pharmacy. Acts independently and appropriately within scope of knowledge and experience in practice area. Exhibits agility and willingness to take on new and additional responsibilities. Embraces new ideas and cultural differences while managing competing priorities.
Goals - Partners with Pharmacy and Finance leaders to develop strategy, goals, objectives, and operational standards to ensure services and priority alignment. Responsible for the successful achievement of strategic objectives and goals and optimizing resources to achieve the desired outcomes.
Quality and Compliance - Creates and promotes a culture based on the principles of continuous quality improvement. Collaborates with Pharmacy colleagues to establish standards. Monitors quality assurance activities and issues. Identifies opportunities and creates corrective action plans to improve operational effectiveness.
Finance - Ensures appropriate operational and capital budgets and forecasts are prepared for Pharmacy related services. Influences effective, judicious, and financially responsible use of resources. Collaborates in identifying analytics and metrics to demonstrate baseline and performance improvement targets. Develops financial analytical tools to support decision-making and maintains financial and purchasing databases. Monitors budgets, key performance indicators (KPIs), drives tactics, provides reports, analyzes variances, and implements actions plans.
Ensures that accounts payable function is accurate and in compliance with the most recent GAAP guidelines.Manages the billing of patient and non-patient revenue, assuring accuracy, timeliness, and quality. Responsible for assuring that charge processes are accurate and timely.
Pharmacy Operations – Initiates and supports business development and revenue integrity activities. Collaborates with Pharmacy leaders to prepare feasibility studies relative to new/expanded programs and services, monitors the financial performance of existing programs. Assists Pharmacy leaders in interpreting financial policies and integrating into department operations as appropriate. Ensures compliance with the 340B program regulations and recommends opportunities. Optimally utilizes and integrates technology and centralized support services.
Professional Development – Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies and certifications, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. Creates a work climate that empowers colleagues and values colleagues’ contributions.
Procurement - Directs Pharmacy procurement activities including purchasing, receiving, storing, inventory, and distribution of pharmaceuticals. Optimizes procurement and distribution processes and develops/implements innovative means to improve efficiencies, reduce waste and maximize financial contribution. Analyzes vendor contracts, participates in negotiations as appropriate and monitors contract compliance. Responsible for the relationship with the pharmaceutical wholesaler.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
FUNTIONAL ROLEResponsible for Pharmacy operations and /or optimization leadership to professional and/or frontline staff, supervisors and/or managers. Retains accountability for staff coordination, training, hiring, performance, regulatory compliance, and results. Develops departmental plans, including organizational priorities. Controls resources, effectiveness, and policy formation in area of responsibility. Collaborates with larger teams of health professionals to plan for long-term patient care needs.
Operations-focus: Directly manages Pharmacy business line operations. Decisions are guided by resource availability as informed by operational need, functional objectives, and clinical drivers of the Pharmacy. Responsible for driving outcomes through the daily management of resources; primarily patient facing.Optimization-focus (advance, improve, enhance, leverage): Manages indirect or patient care department/program. Priorities are guided by the operational and clinical needs. Develops plans in concert with Pharmacy Managers/Directors in support of the department functional objectives & clinical drivers where support is assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s degree preferred (e.g., MBA).
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years’ business experience. Minimum two (2) years of management experience. Requires previous experience in business management. Knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting, and cost accounting techniques preferred. Previous experience in retail or hospital pharmacy is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIESProven leadership skills in relationship to motivating and empowering staff. Preferred experience working in an organization of comparable size and complexity, preferably in healthcare.
Written and verbal communication skills to interpret and/or discuss technical or sensitive information with internal and external customers. Discretion in deciding what and how to communicate. Oral presentation skills to maximize the impact of thoughts transmitted.
Organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful due to time constraints.
Strong analytical and cognitive skills necessary to prepare operating budgets and interpret financial trends, define system problems, develop alternatives, and implement new procedures that are cost effective and continuously improve quality.
