Currently enrolled in an ACPE-Accredited College of Pharmacy. **LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS:** Maintain an active Pharmacy Intern license on the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. **PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:** Prior Health-System Pharmacy Experience. **JOB SUMMARY:** The Pharmacy Intern I is a graduate student in their 1st or 2nd year of an ACPE-Accredited College of Pharmacy working on an “as needed” basis in the University of Texas Medical Branch Department of Pharmacy. They are responsible for assisting in pharmacy operations in the Department of Pharmacy. **ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:** + Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric). + Retrieves and delivers inpatient medication orders and supplies. + Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique and USP 797 standards. + Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patient’s needs including weight and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) utilizing USP 795 standards. + Performs operation of automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cart fill, and other automated drug systems. + Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age-specific guidelines (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric). + Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy area and patient care areas and notifies the appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages noted. + Performs quality assurance/improvement audits. + Maintains a neat, clean, and organized work area. + Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments. + Assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric). + Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area. + Assists and supports the Department of Pharmacy team as needed. + Perform clinical tasks under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. + Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. + Performs related duties as required. **MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:** + Participation in assigned quality improvement projects + Participation in scheduled meetings and group discussions + Completion of assigned assignments in alignment with program objectives **KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:** + Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus. + Exhibits strong interpersonal, teamwork and leadership skills with all levels of the healthcare team. + Takes ownership in solving problems effectively and efficiently and participates in resolution in a proactive and positive manner. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Demonstrates through verbal and non-verbal communications openness to change or new ideas. + Willingly learns and adapts to changes in work environment and new work methods as introduced. + Self-motivated to independently manage time, demonstrates flexibility to fluctuating workload, and effectively prioritizes assignments. + Actively enhances personal growth and development by participating in educational programs and professional organizations and meetings. + Able to spend most of the day standing, walking, or bending. Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, reach, push up to 50 lbs., and regularly and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. **WORK SCHEDULE:** Up to 19.99 hours per week, as needed.
