Position Summary

The Pharmacy Operations Manager (POM) is responsible for setting direction and coordinating the business operational, and technology activities of the Department of Pharmacy. Drawing on a broad understanding of Managed Care practices, medication dispensing solutions, supply chain and inventory management, Pharmacy law and regulations, the POM will collaborate closely with departmental and organizational leadership to continually assess and direct a wide range of opportunities and issues/concerns. The POM is responsible for the direct oversight of, but not limited to, operational, personnel, budgetary, facilities, information technology, Pharmacy dispensing software, long-range project planning and development functions. The incumbent will work with the Pharmacy Clinical Manager and clinical and non-clinical staff members to optimize operational and cost efficiencies wherever possible. The POM possesses a thorough knowledge of the managed care, primary care clinic, urgent care, senior care, and retail/community pharmacy environment as it relates to pharmacy information systems, reimbursement, regulatory, compliance, and contract management. The POM requires discretion and judgement to organize priorities to establish, meet, and continuously monitor departmental defined goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for Sanitas USA. This position entails leading Pharmacy Services personnel and to develop, expand, and integrate Pharmacy centric population health management operational services that improve patient outcomes and deliver value to Sanitas USA. Pharmacy operation services include, but are not limited to: data analytics, financial planning and budgeting, vendor contracting, supply chain management, and pharmacy medication dispensing solution programs. While the POM has a total of 10 or more direct reports, he/she will be responsible for directing pharmacists, Medication Care Coordinators, and pharmacy interns/students/residents when dealing with business, operations, clinical, information technology, and pharmacy system issues. Working closely with the rest of the Pharmacy Leadership Team and interprofessional colleagues, this position is responsible for Operational Pharmacy Services and delivering on our patient care, scholarship, financial, and social responsibility mission. Additionally, this position oversees the relationship with affiliated Schools of Pharmacy at all levels including pharmacy interns and experiential education. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibility is directing the day-to-day medication dispensing operations, budgeting, financial management, and human resource management. The POM works closely with a variety of stakeholders, coordinating the activities of Operational Pharmacy Services across the organization and through future integration efforts. The POM serves as the programmatic and operational leader for Operational Pharmacy Services and is responsible to the Director of Pharmacy and works closely with Sanitas USA employees and leaders.

Departmental Leader
• Directly oversees (as direct Supervisor) medication care coordinators.

Financial Manager
• Actively seeks opportunities to improve financial outcomes, engaging staff and key stakeholders in the process.
• Establishes annual financial goals and actively uses benchmarking to high performing systems in similar area of expertise to set annual targets.
• Monitors and analyzes financial data and utilizes for decisions regarding FTE’s, staffing, and clinical/operational budget.
• Establishes an annual operating and capital budget, demonstrating fiscal responsibility through meeting budget targets.
• Creates business plan(s), justifying variances and analyzing cost benefit of programs.
• Directs and provides guidance to clinical pharmacists to effectively allocate resources based on medical center patient volumes, budget constraints, and program priorities, goals, and objectives.
• Articulates to staff the budget and the context within the organizational financials.

Administrative Leader
• Contribute to the success of Sanitas USA by providing leadership, direction, and coordination of operations, finances, and human resources for area of responsibility.
• Manage and direct all activities within area of responsibility.
• Continually assesses all services, identifies problems, and utilizes data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solutions.
• Directly responsible for pharmacy and medication dispensing regulatory compliance with, but not limited to, the Florida Board of Pharmacy and AHCA.
• Maintain records related to operations and services that are complete, accurate, available, and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
• Engages staff and other stakeholders in continuous improvement of systems and processes; manages resources for staff participation in improvement work activities.
• Ensures effective implementation, facilitation, and coordination of Pharmacy Solutions and Quality Improvement teams/committees.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.
