PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The purpose of this job is to develop, organize, implement and direct the day-to-day activities of the Pharmacy Services Department in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines as well as our established policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for implementation of strategic initiatives for the Pharmacy department.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Able to perform all functions of a staff pharmacist including the outpatient pharmacist and is willing to perform these as needed with the best interest of the department in mind. Duty 2: Complies with all state and national guidelines concerning the practice of pharmacy, including but not limited to the State Board of Pharmacy and The Joint Commission. Is knowledgeable about legal changes concerning the practice of pharmacy and takes an active role in communicating and implementing these changes. Duty 3: Acts as a positive role model for all staff members and influences decisions within the department for the good of the organization. Demonstrates strong leadership skills, and coaches/mentors other associates as needed. Understands the functions of all inpatient pharmacy positions and is capable of teaching and performing these duties. Duty 4: Is continually conscious and proactive in all areas concerning medication safety; reviews safety information received from the Medication Safety Team and other outside safety resources (ISMP) to identify and improve procedures within the pharmacy department that could lead to potential safety issues. Duty 5: Oversees the day-to-day operations of the department and works with the Director to address potential issues. Attempts to resolve conflict in a positive and professional manner. Duty 6: Helps control drug costs through formulary input, inventory control and waste management. Monitors IV to PO conversions. Follows P&T substitution list and recommends changes of non-formulary items that are not listed on the substitution list. Duty 7: Engages in activities to advance personal education, beyond mandatory CE. Attends and takes an active role in pharmacy leadership meetings and is involved in professional associations. Is involved in multidisciplinary committees within the hospital and is willing to take on extra projects. Duty 8: Completes and maintains pharmacy staff scheduling under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or delegated this task as appropriate. Ensures that staffing levels meet the volume requirements and adjusts the schedule as appropriate. Duty 9: Is familiar with all of the technology associated with the pharmacy department. Actively works on the implementation of new systems and the refining of existing systems to ensure patient safety and departmental productivity. Duty 10: Completes payroll duties, performance reviews, and other human resource functions in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy. Duty 11: Coordinates performance improvements activities within the department and in conjunction with other pharmacy leaders.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or PharmD. in pharmacy and significant related experience required. Active pharmacist licensure in the state of Ohio. A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver’s license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle. Promotes a positive, team oriented, environment. Performs duties of a staff/clinical pharmacist as needed. Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required. Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area’s policies and proceduresPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Supervisory experience.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit for five hours a day and stand two hours a day. The individual must be able to lift fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range.
