Job Title: Pharmacy Tech
Job Description

We are seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) to assess medication history for patients in the Emergency Room.

ResponsibilitiesPerform medication history assessments for new admissions to the hospital, providing complete information regarding each medication identified, including drug, dose, route, frequency, indication for PRN, and last dose taken date/time.Obtain allergy history and ensure complete documentation, including substance and reaction description.Determine compliance of medication consumption prior to admission.Prompt patients for additional medications by specifically suggesting over-the-counter medications including herbals, vitamins, pain relievers, cold products, patches, lotions/creams, eye drops, sprays, and inhalers.Enter the patient’s preferred outpatient pharmacy or pharmacies into the electronic health record.Navigate the electronic health record database and enter new medication histories or update existing information in a timely manner.Perform accurate work with careful attention to detail and persistence to follow-up if information cannot be initially obtained.Have excellent knowledge of brand and generic medication names, common dosages, dosage forms, and frequency of administration of each medication.Communicate with patients of all education levels and must be able to speak and read English proficiently.Possess interpersonal communication skills for effective interaction with coworkers and other health professionals.Work in consultation, cooperation, and coordination with nurses, pharmacists, and prescribers in completing timely and accurate medication history assessments.Use good clinical judgment skills to determine the accuracy of medication history lists obtained.Navigate the hospital tracking boards and determine patient selection.Prioritize work in a high-volume work environment.Work independently, but also must be a team player and assist coworkers in completing daily responsibilities where needed.Take initiative in performing miscellaneous functions within the department.Report errors or concerns about the medication history to a supervising pharmacist.Review and complete applicable reports.Participate in performance improvement activities and volunteer for projects.Precept pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students, pharmacists, pharmacist residents, and nurses regarding home medication interviews and documentation.Maintain continuing education needed for certification and licensure.Contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the Pharmacy Department.Act in a manner that is consistent with, and shows commitment to, the Covenant Pledge of Excellence.Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards, complete required education assignments annually, work toward achieving goals and objectives, and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsCertified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)Customer serviceRetail pharmacy experiencePharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certificationAdditional Skills & QualificationsIdeally 5+ years of pharmacy technician experience or 2+ years of pharmacy technician experience and a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Medication History CertificatePrevious outpatient pharmacy experience including prescription transcription duties preferredProficiency in using computer systems for data retrieval and data entryWork Environment

The work environment includes a hospital/office setting. Almost 100% medical benefits are covered, and employees accrue 7.06 hours of PTO from day one, resulting in over 4 weeks of PTO in the first year.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
