The Pharmacy Technician Candidate provides technical support to pharmacists through medication preparation, delivery of medications, and cart fill exchange. This position performs technical duties in accordance with standard operating procedures and is responsible for ensuring accountability and accuracy. The Pharmacy Technician Candidate works under direct supervision of a Pharmacist who is responsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of drugs for inpatients and outpatients. Performs other duties as assigned.
GENERAL DUTIES
Medication Preparation and Delivery:
Under direct supervision, procures, receives, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. Prepares unit dose medication, compound oral and intravenous medications. Restocks medications and other supplies on patient care areas/clinics. Repackages medications in unit dosage forms. Stocks medications and supplies. Maintains appropriate ordering procedures. Ensures product verification and facilitates the distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
Triaging:
Responds to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages and triaging requests appropriately. Prioritizes important tasks.
Quality Assurance:
Conducts regular quality assurance inspections/audits focused on TJC/LBOP requirements, including the examination of product and equipment integrity and expiration. Completes logs to include but not limited to refrigerator/freezer temperature monitoring and required cleaning.
Training/Education:
Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of applicable experience in lieu of education.EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred: Hospital experience
