Pharmacy Technician, Senior (Rx Partners)

UPMC Rx Partners is looking for a full time Pharmacy Technician, Senior to join their dedicated team!

The Pharmacy Technician, Senior provides pharmaceutical care to patients by demonstrating proficient abilities in complex IV admixtures (including cytotoxic compounding and TPN compounding), navigating and utilizing the pharmacy information system and filling and distributing medications in the appropriate manner. The Pharmacy Technician, Senior may also have additional skills such as RobotRX skills, operation room skills, controlled substance skills or packing skills. The Pharmacy Technician, Senior services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

This role will work daylight shifts, rotating between 7am – 3:30 pm and 10:30 am to 7 pm.

Responsibilities:

General: Maintain all pertinent documentation as required. This may include eye wash logs, refrigerator logs, perpetual inventory logs etc. Maintain all patient information and records. Maintain the pharmacy computer system as required. Investigational: Assist in the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation and distribution of investigational and study drugs. General: Perform and document regular cleaning and maintenance activities of ALL areas. Perform assigned job responsibilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. General: Demonstrate a service orientation toward patients, staff and visitors. Conveys a positive, professional image at all times. Filling: Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting and stocking practices. Initial and date products as required. Filling: Consistently has the ability to work and instruct in the Sterile Product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g. chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique with a high level of skill and expertise. General: Assist in training other Pharmacy Technicians in determining their ability to function in ALL areas of the Pharmacy department. Distribution: Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationships during medication distribution process. General: Provide and received information (via telephone, person-to-person, or written) to hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Refer all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists. General: Provide direction and leadership for ALL technical aspects associated with medication preparation in the pharmacy department. Assist in coordinating daily activities, organizing duties and responsibilities, and developing the workflow of the technical staff to maximize productivity in MULTIPLE areas. General: Ensure that all medications in all areas have been safely and securely stored according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Audit and maintain accurate records for controlled substances. Assure that all such drugs are stored and dispensed in compliance with Federal, State, and Department Regulations General: Procure and maintain adequate inventory levels on daily basis in applicable areas such pharmacy medication stock rooms, automated medication carousels, and automated dispensing machines. General: Prepare reports as required to support pharmacy activities. Filling: Possesses the ability to work and instruct in the Sterile Product area preparing TPN (Total Parentral Nutrition) solutions with a high level of skill and expertise. Demonstrates understanding of the calculations involved in nutritional solution preparation. General: Develop and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment. General: Maintain and update automated med stations, unit and department stock, emergency boxes, and crash carts. General: Use computer skills to process and maintain all patient information and records. General: Participate in departmental quality improvement activities in order to continually improve and evaluate pharmaceutical care as reflected by operational and patient care indicators. Distribution: Participate in the distribution of medication including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts and the delivery of controlled substances per department policy and state and federal requirements Distribution: Retrieve medications that have been discontinued and return (and credit if necessary) them to the appropriate pharmacy area. General: Demonstrate competency in performing high skill level activities in MULTIPLE areas such as sterile products/IV admixtures, controlled substances, robot operation, packaging operations, and operating room. General: Demonstrate a high level of knowledge understanding the laws associated with the purchasing and distribution of controlled substances. General: Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and skill in maintaining controlled substance records and the distribution process for controlled substances.
