Pharmacy Technician 2-NOC

Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician-Two (2) NOC assists in all aspects of drug distribution within the scope of responsibility for the various specialty areas (Inpatient, Intravenous (IV) room and Outpatient).  Prepares various sterile products.  Maintains records and computer data related to patients and medications.  Functions in accordance with local, state and federal laws, follows applicable policies and standards of practice of the pharmacy department.  Satisfies the needs of the patient with respect to prescription processing, refill authorization, insurance billing, filling of medications and operating the cash register.  Covers both drop-off and pick-up windows.  These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals.  Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma and completion of an accredited Pharmacy Training Program or Bachelor of Science Degree related to physical or life sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) from an accredited institution required.  Minimum one year of hospital pharmacy or IV admixture experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge in the area of billing and medical terminology.  Able to write legibly speak; assemble, troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment and perform technical age-specific patient care activities as required; use computer and software programs necessary to the position.  Able to communicate effectively, and professionally with others, be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, collaborate with others; accept direction.  Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing and on the telephone; perform basic math functions essential to position; think critically; organize and prioritize workload; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure, problem solve; recall information; pay close attention to detail; document legibly; use computer for essential job duties.  Able to distinguish colors as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace/patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; read documents essential to position; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to the position.  Ability to maintain good public relation skills.  Able to interact positively with broad range of co-workers and promotes teamwork.  Willingness to work under direct supervision.  Ability to do pharmaceutical calculations and interpret medication orders.  Rapid accurate measurement/use of syringes.

Licensures and Certifications: California Pharmacy Technician license required.  Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required.
