UMass Memorial Health Care Entities:

Medical Center - Worcester (University, Memorial, Hahnemann) Health Alliance -Clinton (Leominster)  Marlboro Hospital Harrington Hospital (Southbridge, Webster) Community Healthlink – Worcester Community Medical Group (Doctor Offices)  

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Complies with all state and federal standards for compounding medications.
2. Proficient with pharmacy technology and equipment.  Capable of troubleshooting minor technical problems and knows who to reach out to when escalation is needed to resolve.
3. Prepares and packages all forms of medications and compounds as needed. Repackage all bulk medications into unit of use containers, ensure that items are scannable.
4. Maintains required documentation in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements.
5. Conducts medication room inspections in assigned patient care area in accordance with regulatory requirements. Removes outdated medications and supplies and provides all needed follow up actions.
6. Assembles drugs in an accurate and efficient manner, scanning items from the different warehouse locations using the department’s inventory managements system.
7. Appropriately triage pharmacy phone calls.
8. Support training new technicians. 
9. Maintains a clean work area.
10. Receiving of daily order and ensure that all items are scannable and entered into the hospital system. Helps to maintain an accurate and in date inventory.
11. Participates in identifying problems or areas for improvement and assists management with problem solving projects and improving pharmacy operations and communication.

2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
5. Maintains respect for patient confidentiality
6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
8. Ensure that all required licenses and certification are up to date and are current.
9. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility, and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.  
2. Current license with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy
3. Certified by one of the national governing bodies such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board PTCB, or the National Healthcareer Association ExCPT

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Position requires proficiency in math and, knowledge and ability to use a computer.  
2. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy, efficiency, and dependability.  
3. Positive work ethic, motivated and professional demeanor to promote teamwork in the department.

Preferred:
1. Pharmacy work experience within the past year.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.  The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description.  Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered light to medium, with a considerable amount of standing and walking. May require occasional pushing and pulling of carts.  Position requires work in doors, in patient care areas, in a pharmacy office environment, as well as in hazardous and non-hazardous IV clean rooms.
