Job Title: Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

Assists the Pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications to patients. Performs designated technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare oral, topical, and parenteral medications for dispensing to patients under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.Select, label, and package appropriate pharmaceuticals using IV equipment and fill medication carts.Enter physician orders into the hospital computer system to update and edit patient profiles and charges.Assist patients, nurses, physicians, and others with medication order requests and pharmacy-related needs.Monitor stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates for pharmacy areas and replenish medications as needed.Conduct monthly or periodic inspections of patient care and department areas.Fill and replace medications in automated medication dispensing machines and transport to appropriate nursing units.Prepare IV admixtures using aseptic techniques, including STATS, parenteral nutrition bags, and cytotoxic agents.Deliver and retrieve medications, including narcotics, and pharmacy supplies to and from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.Compound products in bulk or per individual order and prepare private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging when not otherwise available.Complete and maintain controlled substance inventory logs and records.Effectively perform all pharmacy technician duties in all pharmacy locations, including the OR pharmacy.Assist Pharmacy Technician in orienting new Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician students.Maintain clean and orderly workstations.Essential SkillsCPHT (Pharmacy Technician Certification)CompoundingFulfillmentPyxisRetail PharmacyDC Pharmacy LicensePharmacy Technician CertificateAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh school degree or GED diploma required.Diploma from an approved pharmacy technician training program may be acceptable.DC Department of Health (DOH) registration required.Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent national certification.Hospital experience preferred but not required.Work Environment

This position is set in a hospital environment with rotating shifts from 7:30am - 3:30pm and 3:30pm-11:30pm, Monday to Friday, with every other weekend on duty. The role requires maintaining a clean and orderly workstation and may involve assisting in the OR pharmacy.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $28.00
