Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under close supervision, assists the Staff Pharmacist in performing routine technical duties such as compounding, distribution, inventory control and storage of pharmaceutical items. Patients served include Neonate thru Adult-Geriatric.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position has no supervisory responsibility.

CONDITIONS: The new hire or transfer employee will remain within this job category for a probationary period of six months. With a satisfactory criteria based performance evaluation, the employee will advance to a regular status employee. If the evaluation is not satisfactory, the employee will be terminated.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Six months hospital or general pharmacy experience preferred. Pharmacy Technician II position one year experience required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to read, interpret and transcribe data required.The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patient and departmental documents is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with patients, physicians, health system officials, other health system personnel and the general public is essential.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform mathematical calculations when preparing medication dosages required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to prioritize work responsibilities required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Certified as a Pharmacy Technician for Pharmacy 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works in a clean, well-lighted environment with fluctuating temperatures. Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 35 lbs. approximately 35% of the time; requires pushing and pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 lbs. approximately 35% of the time. Requires walking and standing approximately 70% of the time; requires sitting approximately 30% of the time; occasional ascending/descending stairs. Requires frequent bending and reaching. Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate equipment and dispense medications. Potential for exposure to blood and/or body substances and hazardous materials requiring observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
