Summary The Pharmacy Technician supports the VA Close-to-Me program which allows select infusions to be administered in the Community-Based Outpatient Clinics. This position functions primarily in Pharmacy Service within the Fargo VA Health Care System (VAHCS). Operate complex pharmacy automation (ie. Parata, Omnicell, Perl, ScriptPro, etc). Completes medication outdates as assigned. Ensures all stocked pharmacy items are bar code labeled in accordance with VA's Generic Inventory Package (GIP) program requirements. Initiates ordering requirements of pharmaceuticals, specialty, and supply items through pharmacy prime vendors multi complex accounts or other mandatory sources. Responsible for adherence to federal contracts and compliance with federal regulations regarding open market, ensuring inventory control through perpetual evaluation. Maintains accountability of daily purchases and coordinates receipt, assures consistent delivery schedules are employed and handled in a timely manner beneficial to Pharmacy Service and appropriately disperses stock in a timely fashion into designated storage areas. Repackages medications for use in outpatient or inpatient pharmacy following established procedures and maintains all required documentation. Determines, establishes, and modifies as necessary, appropriate ordering intervals, inventory levels, most efficient/effective ordering quantities, sources of supply taking into account seasonal variations in drug usage, delivery time requirements, urgency of medical need, alternative sources of availability, and formulary changes. Reads and interprets prescriptions, obtains proper medication or material in the proper strength and dosage form; determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on Pharmacy's paper or electronic copy of prescription/order. AND Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: In addition to meeting the experience for the GS-08 level, you must possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, principles, methodology and policies in a specialized area or section of pharmacy (such as sterile compounding, controlled substances, automation, clinical pharmacy, contact center, etc.) Skill in training and orienting new and existing pharmacy facility employees and students on proper policies and procedures.
