Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including dispensing, preparing, compounding, and delivering pharmaceuticals. This role involves performing inventory control, compliance audits, financial transactions, and maintaining pharmacy records. The technician works as part of an interdisciplinary patient care team under the direction of Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Leadership. The role is designed to extend knowledge and competency in the Ambulatory Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Infusion Pharmacy, or Pharmaceutical Research Center.
ResponsibilitiesSelect, package, and label medication and supply orders for inspection and approval by a pharmacist.Process medication orders following proper protocol including accurate data entry of patient information, insurance information, and medication order details for verification.Maintain, track, and monitor inventory levels of medications and pharmaceutical supplies, informing the appropriate individual of stock needs and shortages.Use general knowledge of medical informatics including order-entry systems, automated dispensing devices, bar-code technology systems, and clinical integrated systems.Deliver medications, pharmacy products, and/or pharmacy services to patients, agents of the patient, or patient care areas in compliance with regulatory standards.Calculate, measure, and compound medications in accordance with USP 795, USP 797, USP 800, and other established practices and policies.Collaborate with the health care team, pharmacists, and/or patients to identify and resolve patient-specific medication management or medication therapy needs.Perform all other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsPharmacy technician certificationCompounding experienceMD Pharmacy LicenseExperience in multiple pharmacy environments including ambulatory, inpatient, and infusion pharmacyIV compounding skillsAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Graduate or equivalentMaryland Technician Registration or Maryland Pharmacy Intern Certificate or Pharmacy Student Technician Exemption Certificate for students enrolled and in good standing at an accredited School of Pharmacy6 months experience required; 1 year experience preferredAbility to prioritize work responsibilities and manage multiple demandsAwareness of self-responsibility and accountability for professional practiceAdherence to best practice standards and hospital policiesCompetency in pharmacy-related technology and applicationsEffective problem identification and resolution skillsStrong communication methods and skillsParticipation in professional growth and development activitiesUtilization of appropriate customer relations skillsWork Environment
The Pharmacy Technician II will work in various settings including Ambulatory Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Infusion Pharmacy, or Pharmaceutical Research Center. The technician should be prepared to support all pharmacy environments as needed.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $28.00/hr.
