Position Summary
Pharmacy technicians, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, are responsible for providing technical support for the Department of Pharmaceutical Services. They are responsible for labeling, preparing, dispensing, and distributing of pharmaceutical products for all patient populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1.
Prepares all medications doses in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations, under the direct supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist.
2.
Prepares all parenteral products in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations, under the direct supervision of a Licensed Pharmacist.
3.
Delivers and distributes medications.
4.
Provides inventory and clerical support.
5.
Participates in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
ASHP/ACPE Accredited Pharmacy Technician Education Program and/or Specialized IV Training
Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):
Required:
None
Preferred:
One year hospital pharmacy (including IV preparations) or two years community retail pharmacy.
License, Registry or Certification:
Required:
Registered with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy within 180 days of hire, Pharmacy Technician License (LPhT). The application to begin the pharmacy technician registration process must be submitted to the Board of Pharmacy within the first 10 days of employment. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certificate.

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
Mathematical proficiency; Dexterity; Successful completion of written and hands on competencies; Technical expertise (site level) for Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) (e.g. PYXIS® or Omnicell®); Competence in required computer programs (clinical system, ADC, packaging, parenteral documentation).
