Summary :The Pharmacy Technician Certified is responsible for technical knowledge and application of departmental requirements related to accurate medication selection, preparation of sterile and non-sterile product, and timely medication distribution. Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory levels, anticipates needed medications and supplies, places and expedites orders, and removes outdated drugs. Obtains an accurate and complete patient medication list upon hospital admission to ensure patient safety where applicable.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Processes medication orders on time to progress the patient’s plan of care.

Is responsible for own and other team members’ adherence to regulatory guidelines and ThedaCare policies.

Follows current policies and regulations around preparation of sterile compounded products.

Under the direction of the pharmacist, the pharmacy technician carries out delegated tasks to adhere to five rights--right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, and the right frequency--to prepare pharmaceutical products accurately adhering to established guidelines.

Completes documentation on time and in compliance with organizational, state, and federal statutes, regulations, and policies relating to the record keeping requirements of pharmaceutical handling.

Obtains an accurate admission medication history necessary for the patient care team’s initial assessment by assessing the patient’s ability to participate in a face-to-face interview and applies knowledge of medications to ensure list of medications are complete where applicable.

Implements quality measures into product preparation, storage security, and delivery, and when compiling an accurate patient medication history.

Responds to patient-related queries and directs them to pharmacists for clarification on issues concerning drug information and interactions.

Performs routine maintenance/activities necessary to ensure equipment is in good condition.


QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED preferred • Must be 18 years of age

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification (CPhT)

Registered Pharmacy Technician with the State of Wisconsin


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normally works in climate controlled office environment

Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments

Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents

Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients

Use of computers throughout the work day

Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers


Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.
