Job Overview:

Assists pharmacists in all aspects of pharmacy practice and performs any duties required to provide and ensure good patient care and safety as requested.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School/GED diploma within 6 months of hireMust be PTCB certified within 90 days and maintain PTCB certificationRegistration with the NJ Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Essential Functions:

Places orders with suppliers, unpacks, verifies and puts away drug orders. Notes any discrepancies on the invoice, notifies the supplier, and indicates the resolution of the problemMaintains adequate drug inventory, supplies and restocks pharmacy picking stationsPackages and properly labels individual unit dose liquid and solid medications and documents such in the unit dosing systemCleans the compounding and packaging areas after useCleans medication drawers of discharged patients and performs other routine pharmacy housekeeping functionsRefills and maintains automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs)Collects and processes medication orders prior to distributionDelivers prepared medication to nursing units, as assignedPerforms necessary tasks related to patient transfer and discharge; record-keeping and transfer of medicationsDelivery of controlled substances to all hospital areasChecks for and removes expired medications from stockPrepares and labels extemporaneously compounded non-sterile pharmaceuticalsAnswers and directs telephone calls and other inquiries including those from medical staff and nursing staff in a professional and courteous mannerDelivers intravenous solutions to nursing unitsPerforms quality assurance tasks as assignedAssists with orientation and training of new staffCompletes all competency/skills assessment requirementsAttends daily departmental huddlesParticipates in orientation, education and training programsAbility to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work scheduleIV Sterile Product Preparation (if applicable)Sterile product preparation utilizing sterile techniqueAppropriate labeling of sterile productsPerforms required calculations for all aspects of pediatric medication dispensing and compoundingMaintains the integrity of laminar air flow hoods by cleaning and following proper proceduresWorks as a team player and assists those in needEnhances team effectiveness through dependability. Work Environment:

May be subjected to noise and disagreeable odorsMoving mechanical parts are found in the work environmentUniversal precautions must be followed when working in any clinical area and especially when entering patient care areasChemotherapy and hazardous medication preparation requires some exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and medications. Workers are exposed to chemical hazards and must use appropriate personal protective equipment as trainedSterile product/IV preparation exposes employee to clean needle stick injury
