GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to various customers by verifying the medication packaging process and outcomes. Practices within the scope of state and federal regulations.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be licensed Pharmacy Tech with the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy or Oregon Board of Pharmacy, based on the state worked.
National Certification (CPhT, ExCPT or equivalent) preferred with under 3 years’ experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Assists the pharmacist in preparing prescriptions, which includes various material resource management, dispensing, clerical, and billing duties. Revenue management: ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
Participates in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement activities. Understands the limitations to performing certain responsibilities of a registered technician in dispensing medications and remains within the scope of practice. Transports medications to patient rooms or nursing medication rooms. Retrieves unused medications from patient rooms or nursing areas. Excellent communication skills. Ability to create and foster a cooperative teamwork environment.
