Pharmacy Technician Trainee
Summary The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is a participant in a pharmacy technician training program. They will learn the skills to become responsible for preparing and delivering IV admixture solutions, ordering, receiving, invoicing, and maintaining inventory of departmental supplies and/or pharmaceuticals and coordinating drug distribution with pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy staff under the supervision of a pharmacist. Pharmacy technician trainees may rotate through inpatient and outpatient pharmacy settings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed daily under the supervision of a designated preceptor. Other duties may be assigned as needed to drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the organization. + Enrolled in or has successfully completed a pharmacy technician training program, which includes but is not limited to didactic, simulated, and experiential learning + Maintain established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards + Follow state and federal regulations with regard to inventory management + Contribute to departmental cost reduction and/or revenue-generation efforts + Contribute to departmental quality improvement efforts + Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services + Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care Inpatient/Hospital Pharmacy: + Prepare IV admixtures and non-sterile compounding preparations under pharmacist supervision + Deliver medications to all areas of the hospital + Maintain inventory of departmental supplies and materials needed, including ordering supplies + Clean and organize sterile and non-sterile compounding area(s) using proper techniques in accordance with established policies and procedures + Process drug returns from clinical units and return unused medications to stock as appropriate + Demonstrate familiarity with pharmacy automation, medication distribution, and technology as applicable to work area + Collect medication histories as needed Outpatient/Community Pharmacy: + Process refill, new, and returned prescription orders in the outpatient setting + Process and receive vendor orders + Interact with patients to gather demographic and/or medical information + Demonstrate ability to provide excellent customer service and commitment to CRMC’s values + Assist with meds to beds program as needed + Clean and organize drug inventory and check for outdated items + Demonstrate proficiency in open/close of cash register and daily register operations + Exercise clear understanding of pharmacy law, rules, regulations and hospital policies and procedures governing outpatient pharmacy operations Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience Minimum Required Education: None Preferred Education: High School Diploma Minimum Required Experience: None Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Minimum Required: Must register as a pharmacy technician trainee with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Basic Life Support certification required within 90 days of hire.
