A hospital Pharmacy Technician Trainee is a healthcare professional who plays an integral role in the pharmacy operations. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in the distribution of medications to patients in the hospital (inpatient and outpatient units, emergency room, and operating room). The distribution of medications, includes but is not limited to, selecting, counting, compounding, packing, labeling, and delivering medications to the units. Employees must be proficient in accessing and viewing the electronic health record and utilizing pharmacy automated systems. Employees will work in multiple areas of the pharmacy to maintain competency and broaden skills for all areas of the job scope. Applicants must complete an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or begin a Pharmacy Technician Trainee program within 6 months of hire and complete the program no greater than 18 months of initial registration date.

What We’re Looking For:
* High School Degree or GED
* New hires must register & be active with the OH Board of Pharm as a Pharm Tech Trainee PRIOR TO start date OR
* Have an active Registered Pharm Tech registration. (Employer willing to assist with completion of this task)
Job Responsibilities:
* Assists and trains with the pharmacist in non-sterile medication preparation by selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, scanning, labeling, filling, and delivering medications per department guidelines. Unit Dose: selects the appropriate medications and accurately labels the medications. Non-sterile compounding: weighs, measures, and mixes ingredients by using proper calculations, equipment, and technique. Automated Dispensing Machines: able to sign in, load/refill/unload, outdate, and resolve discrepancies. Stock Orders/Emergency Carts/Boxes: accurately fills in a timely manner. Accurately and efficiently transports medications from the pharmacy to areas outside of the pharmacy (tubing, cart delivery, IV Run, STAT, etc). Medications are delivered at the correct run time, delivered to the correct area, and stored appropriately (refrigerator/room temperature, secured).
* Responsible for inventory control through stock rotation, removal of expired medications, reordering/stocking of medications/supplies when stock is low, and packaging/assembling medications for future dispensing. Ensures safe storage of medications.
* Responsible for maintaining an accurate controlled substances (CII-CV) inventory and for reviewing and maintaining controlled substance records. Immediately reports unresolved controlled discrepancies to a supervisor.
* Optimizes workflow by efficiently and accurately completing job duties and prioritizing workload. Has a good overall job knowledge and uses good technical and procedural judgment. Assists with other duties as necessary for efficient pharmacy operations. Shows initiative and flexibility in carrying out day to day tasks. Utilizes appropriate and logical problem solving techniques. Indentifies critical issues and communicates to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
* Appropriately uses pharmacy technology. Follows department standards of work, policies, and workflows. Maintains the pharmacy automation (changing consumables, cleaning, etc). Identifies, troubleshoots, and reports pharmacy automation issues. Accesses patient information, processes in-basket Rx Messages, and prints labels in the Electronic Health Record.
* Responds politely and professionally to pharmacist/nursing/physician/patient or other requests via telephone, in writing, or in person. Appropriately manages, triages, and ensures timely follow-up of all requests. Assists in the training of new employees.
