Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities: Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate. Update patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Properly explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear but courteous manner. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Washington, District of Columbia.

Work Environment

Shift/Work Hours: Monday-Friday 9AM- 6PM . Draws Required Daily: 20-60. Work Environment: OBGYN Doctor’s Office, medium-sized location. Standing: Majority of the shift. Specialties: Geriatrics and pediatrics. Team: There will be other employees at every site. Training: First week.
