Responsibilities:

Provide courteous and professional interaction with all laboratory customers, ensuring timely response to telephone inquiries. Adhere to proper patient identification protocols while performing venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick procedures to obtain appropriate blood specimens. Provide clear instructions to patients on specimen collection procedures. Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment to prioritize tasks and meet departmental needs, respecting authority. Conduct specimen collection at off-site locations and safely transport specimens to the laboratory, following established safety protocols. Adhere strictly to laboratory and hospital policies concerning procedures, quality control, safety practices, and compliance with hand hygiene and isolation precautions. Perform clerical duties including accurate entry of demographic information, test orders, and ensuring patient and sample identity integrity. Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned, contributing to their integration into the team. Promptly notify technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.
