Responsibilities:

Interacts with all laboratory customers in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring timely responses to telephone inquiries. Follows proper patient identification procedures to procure blood specimens through venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick, while also providing instruction for patient-collected samples. Demonstrates dependability and reliability, exercising independent judgment to prioritize department needs and accept appropriate authority. Conducts specimen collection at off-site locations, transporting specimens safely to the laboratory according to established protocols. Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety measures, and compliance, including hand hygiene and isolation precautions. Performs clerical duties as needed, utilizing computer systems to accurately enter patient demographics, process test orders, and manage test results. Trains and orients new employees, students, and residents as assigned, contributing to their development and integration into the team. Monitors and maintains necessary supplies for laboratory functions, ensuring cost-effective use of materials and reagents while also addressing any unusual incidents with technical staff or supervisors.
