Description:

Understands pertinent Laboratory Information System functions and performs downtime procedures effectivelyDemonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by the laboratoryFollows all required laboratory safety, infection control policies and chemical hygiene plan according to OSHA and regulatory requirementsEvaluates each procedure performed and chooses appropriate investigative techniques as indicatedAssesses job functions and takes appropriate action when problems are detectedHandles troubleshooting professionally and communicates with coworkers and customers when delays occurIdentifies patients and specimens correctly from beginning of process to release of resultsAccessions specimens into the LIS, accurately recording pertinent data to be used by the physician in the interpretation of tests resultsDocuments all information in an accurate, neat and legible manner and maintains minimum errorsCollects blood samples by appropriate method on premature babies to geriatric patients utilizing prescribed safety and infection control procedures to protect the patient and the phlebotomist.Explains collection procedures and provides general testing information as needed to facilitate patient understanding and reduce patient anxiety. Calms and reassures patients who are anxious or apprehensive about having blood drawnAssists with additional departmental tasks as needed or assignedWorks with a positive attitude and maintains accountability for personal actions.
