Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
+ Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections in a clear and courteous manner.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperatures.
+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimens.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, Wednesday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Thursday at the PSC. This position is in an HIV/AIDS clinic.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00
