Responsibilities

Analyzing lab testing is pretty complex. We depend on our lab staff to help determine what is happening with our patients. They are a vital key to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Some of what you will do:

Obtain blood specimens by capillary puncture or venipuncture using appropriate technique.

Correctly identifies patient per written protocol and properly labels specimens accurately and completely while maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed.

Exercises judgment in determining work priority. Interacts with nursing units to ascertain critical priorities and verify discrepancies.

Disposes of contaminated lab supplies and handles all lab specimens regarding potential health hazards according to written procedures.

Receives laboratory specimens orders tests processes specimens using the centrifuge and

Distributes specimens to appropriate testing areas communicating special instructions.

Maintains professional attitude with patients visitors hospital staff and fellow employees while assuring the confidentiality of all hospital information. Discusses problems in a professional adult and calm manner.


Qualifications

What you will need:

No experience is necessary! It is preferred to have six months previous experience in phlebotomy and customer service. 


Education/Licensure:

Required: High School diploma or GED.

Preferred: Phlebotomy certification or completion of a phlebotomy course.
