Phlebotomist
Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. This role involves collecting and storing specimens, explaining procedures to patients, and ensuring compliance with all regulations. Responsibilities + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods to patients. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Fully understand all physician orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy. + Package specimens for transport. + Store specimen samples at the required temperature and label them accurately. + Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Experience with blood draws and high-volume blood draw environments. + Proficiency in phlebotomy, including difficult sticks and oncology patient experience. + Ability to use centrifuges and handle blood pressure measurements. + Adaptability to fast-paced, high-volume environments. + Strong interpersonal skills to deal with different patient personalities. + Ability to avoid sticking patients more than twice. Additional Skills & Qualifications + GED or HS Diploma. + Experience in a high-volume patient service center or oncology center. + No certification needed for phlebotomy. + Experience in processing specimens is a plus but not required as training will be provided. Work Environment This location is extremely busy, with phlebotomists performing 40-50 draws a day, with a minimum of 30. The role involves front-end blood work and back-end processing, including centrifuging and data entry into the system. The team consists of 9 employees in the front and 6 medical assistants for the cancer center. The phlebotomist will work in pods, with 2 phlebotomists and 2 medical assistants per pod. The environment requires someone who can keep up with high volume and fast pace, adapt to different personalities, and bring positive energy to support patients going through challenging times. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
