Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at a facility in Williamsburg that focuses on Oncology patients. This role involves working with patients whose veins may not be as prominent, requiring expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. You will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care by ensuring samples are collected efficiently and with minimal discomfort to patients.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections as required.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match the script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures to maintain the integrity of the specimens for transport.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Wear appropriate attire including personal protective equipment.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsPhlebotomy certification valid for the state of employment.At least 6 months of phlebotomy experience.Experience in either a hospital or practice setting.Knowledge of standard phlebotomy procedures including order of draw.High School Diploma or GED.Additional Skills & QualificationsCustomer service skills.Knowledge of medical terminology.Ability to perform high volume and harder blood draws.Work Environment
This is a very high volume center performing an average of 400 draws a day. You will work in a hospital or practice setting, adhering to the standard procedures and protocols. The role requires wearing appropriate attire, including personal protective equipment. The environment is fast-paced, requiring efficiency and attention to detail.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $25.00
