Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The position involves working in a high-volume patient service center or oncology center, collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Properly explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples at the required temperature and in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsBlood draw and phlebotomy experienceExperience with high-volume blood drawsProficiency with straight needles and centrifuge useAbility to measure blood pressureExperience with difficult sticksAbility to adapt and handle different patient personalities with good energyAdditional Skills & QualificationsGED or High School DiplomaPhlebotomy experience in a high-volume patient service center or oncology centerNo certification needed for phlebotomyWork Environment

The work environment includes multiple sites: Suite 201, Rutherford NJ and Hackensack NJ. The schedule is as follows: Suite 201, Rutherford NJ - Monday 11 AM to 7 PM, Friday 9 AM to 5 PM; 177 Summit Ave, Hackensack NJ - Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The back area involves processing, including centrifuging, processing specimens, and entering data into an electronic system to send out to the main lab. The role requires someone who can keep up with high volume and fast pace. It is important to try not to stick patients more than two times and to provide good energy to patients who may be going through difficult times.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00
