As a Phlebotomist at an inpatient medical center, you will be responsible for greeting patients as they arrive in the lab, performing blood draws, labeling and centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating, and updating patient information. You will collect and store specimens according to established procedures, explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, and demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. Additionally, you will match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, package specimens for transport, and store samples at the required temperature. Compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and providing excellent customer service are essential aspects of this role.
Responsibilities
+ Greet patients as they arrive in the lab.
+ Perform blood draws and label specimens.
+ Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
+ Update patient information and handle insurance and billing processes.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.
+ Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department training.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
+ Provide excellent customer service to patients.
Essential Skills
+ Phlebotomy/venipuncture experience (6+ months in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting).
+ Previous customer service experience in any setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Ability to take feedback well and eagerness to learn.
+ Patient-first mindset.
+ Positive attitude, hardworking, takes initiative, and works well with others.
+ Proven reliability and positive attendance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or GED.
Work Environment
This position is located at an inpatient medical center. The schedule consists of 9-hour shifts from 4:00 AM to 1:30 PM, 4 days a week, with days varying from Monday to Friday and rotating every third weekend. The contract duration is initially for 3 months, with potential extensions based on performance and business needs. The work environment includes handling specimens, interacting with patients, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00
