We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist with experience in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating equipment, and updating patient information. The ideal candidate will collect and store specimens according to established procedures and explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
Responsibilities
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand and comply with all physician orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.
+ Follow specific procedures necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
+ Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).
+ Minimum of 12 months' work experience performing venipunctures.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ 0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in geriatrics preferred.
Work Environment
You will be working in a clinical laboratory setting. The work involves using various laboratory equipment and technologies, including straight needles, butterfly needles, and centrifuges. The environment requires adherence to safety protocols and procedures to ensure the integrity of specimens. Dress code typically involves wearing scrubs and protective gear as necessary.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
