Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontaminating equipment. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture clearly and courteously, and demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Understand and comply with all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperatures.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.Follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsAt least two years of experience in phlebotomy.Experience performing venipunctures on all types of patients.Proficiency with hard sticks, needles, urine, and thyroid testing.Experience using butterfly needles.Detail-oriented and good experience in phlebotomy.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed (as required in some states).Additional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Computer skills.Work Environment
The position is located in a hospital, and the phlebotomist will be required to stand for most of their shift. The work environment involves working alone mostly and dealing with geriatric patients. The schedule is 8:30 PM to 7:00 AM, 4 days a week, with rotating weekends. The workweek starts on Sunday, and shifts are 10-hour nights equating to 40 hours a week. The first week will be dedicated to training.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
