Job DescriptionThe main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, train colleagues, and make workflow recommendations.This position is essential in ensuring the accurate and timely collection, processing, and transport of patient specimens.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature and protocol.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, if required.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in a related field.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in a patient service center or diagnostic lab.Strong data entry and customer service skills.Familiarity with specimen processing and collection techniques.Work EnvironmentThe position operates from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM in a laboratory setting.The work environment includes handling biological specimens and following safety protocols to ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.The role requires standing for extended periods and using various tools and equipment for specimen collection and processing.Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
