Phlebotomist

Job Description

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and perform decontamination.Update patient information accurately.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are correct against the script.Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Experience in OBGYN settings preferred but not requiredValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in some states.High School Diploma or GED1-2 years of experience required

Work Environment

Work hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM, and Wednesday from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
