Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist with experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and updating patient information. The candidate will collect and store specimens according to established procedures and clearly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections to patients. The role requires proficiency in using straight needles and butterfly needles, understanding physicians' orders, and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws and label specimens accurately.Centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and perform decontamination procedures.Update patient information in the system.Collect and store specimens following established procedures.Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.Place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes and label them accurately.Follow specific procedures for transporting specimens to maintain their integrity.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in a related field.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working in physician clinics, pediatric, and geriatric settings.Ability to handle a high volume of blood draws daily (20-40).Strong communication skills to work effectively within a team.Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. The role is based in doctors' offices, which are fairly large, and the candidate is expected to stand for most of their shift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
